The article deals with the importance of economic education in vocational education. Economic education is seen as an important pedagogical component, the implementation of which is a productive way to prepare students in high school. The purpose of economic education - developing the skills of self-organization of life, as well as improving economic education students. The article describes the objectives and principles of economic education in high school. Clarify the concept of competence and economic education of students. We believe that the solution to the problem of economic research education of students possible, taking into account the application of the competency approach. And also, emphasizes the importance of teaching economics discipline in universities, especially for students in the humanities majors. Arguments in favor of the development of economic thinking in the learning process, in order to enhance students’ skills of self-reliance and self-activity. The survey conclusions about the motivational orientation of students in the humanities majors in the course of professional activities and identified weaknesses in their economic knowledge.
