The article describes the motivational aspect of the problem of training of pedagogical high school students to the design and implementation of research activities in the future profession. On the basis of analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature and monitoring studies features of the structure and content of the motivational sphere of research activities of students during their training in high school are established, the main groups of motives research activities of students - future teachers are described. The paper identifies organizational and methodological conditions conducive to the formation of stable motivation research activities of students - future teachers of mathematics in higher pedagogical school, starting with the first years of studies. Some guidelines for the development of methodical maintenance of this type of cognitive activity of future mathematics teachers during their training profile are presented.
