The article shows the importance of aesthetic education in the process of correction and compensation of impaired mental and emotional development of mentally retarded students in modern conditions. The author believes that in the process of purposeful aesthetic education, using specially selected agents aesthetic impact (works of art, natural factors, decorate the room), the appropriate corrective principles, you can achieve the successful formation of positive personal qualities of a child with mild mental retardation and prosperous future socialization. The article highlights the main methodological approaches that increase the efficiency of processes of socialization of mentally retarded children in the educational process, which takes into account the peculiarity of mental activity, emotional state students. The results of experimental work on the aesthetic education of students of special schools for mentally retarded children.
