SPECIFIC FEATURES OF NIZHNY NOVGOROD EDUCATION AND ENLIGHTENMENT IN THE LATE XIX – EARLY XX CENTURY

This paper analyzes the state of education in Nizhny Novgorod region in the late XIX – early XX century, the specific feathers of its formation and development, the role of Nizhny Novgorod merchants and famous businesspersons – patrons in this process. The authorities supported not all types of education. The provincial administration took care mainly of the primary, classical and real (including technical) education. The Trust Committees were mostly formed in these profile schools - public schools, gymnasiums and real schools. In the sphere of public education charity used to be the remarkable event that defined the peculiarities of education and enlightenment development in pre revolution Russia as a whole, and in Nizhny Novgorod region in particular.
