The article shows the importance of the use of music in the correction and compensation of impaired mental and emotional development of mentally retarded students in the modern world. The author believes that in the process of purposeful musical education, using specially selected music, appropriate corrective principles, you can achieve the successful formation of positive personal qualities of a child with mild mental retardation and prosperous future socialization. The article highlights the main methodological approaches that increase the efficiency of the processes of socialization of mentally retarded children in the educational process, which takes into account the peculiarity of mental activity, the emotional state of students. The results of the experimental work to overcome the emotional and behavioral problems of students of special schools for mentally retarded children.
