Different approaches to the definitions of the concepts «social education» and «systems of social education» are discussed. On the basis of the analysis social education is defined as a type of education that ensures planned task oriented formation of personality within a specially organized socially useful activity targeted towards the integration of the personality into the community. Therefore, the activity is defined as socially useful when it is targeted towards the needs of the society and provides the personality with the possibilities of self-determination, self-expression and self-fulfillment via involvement in the system of social relations. The subjects of social education and specific principles of its implementation are defined: account of the subject’s experience, acknowledgement and acceptance of the child, cooperation, humanist focus of social education and social dependence of education. The system of social education is considered at the level of an educational organization.
