The article presents a comparative analysis of conceptual frameworks, didactic principles and main characteristics of drawing, painting, sculpture, applied art for the future teachers of fine arts in Russian and Chinese universities and pedagogical universities. Three trends of artistic education when preparing teachers in the system of higher art-pedagogical education in Russia and China are shortly characterized in the article. They are academic, traditional and innovative trends, in each of which the features of teaching students are shown. Definite didactic views on the essence and the process of education of different types of art are the basis of each trend: the academic trend is based on the principles of classical didactics and is typical of the academic system of fundamental education ideas about the interrelations of a teacher and students; the traditional trend is characterized by the organization of the pedagogical interaction and cooperation on the basis of the ideas founded on national culture; the innovative trend is supposed to take advantage of interactive methods of teaching and information-communication technologies and is based on the individualization of the process of teaching.
