CONTEMPORARY PROBLEMS OF NATIONAL EDUCATION

The paper investigates the potential of the Russian educational system in preservation of languages and cultures. Capabilities of the educational system are analysed during the period from 1990 to 2007, and during the period of implementation of federal state educational standards. The positive and negative factors affecting the state of education in native language are revealed at different stages of development of the Russian educational system. The analysis shows that the further development of national education under federal state educational standards is possible based on multicultural [polylingual] model of education. The paper contains the list of measures that are necessary for the implementation of this model including changes and additions to the existing laws, federal state educational standards, establishment of general federal agencies that provide free access to education in native language.
