In recent years informetrics has become one of the most popular and perspective research fields in libraries and information centers. The article describes two basic directions of informetric researches conducted in libraries: organization and management of library and information center activities («informetrics for librarians») and information requirements of the users («informetrics for users»). The article also gives an overview on opinions of prominent scientists on theoretical, methodological and practical value of informetrics and informetric laws for library and information center activities. By initiating and conducting researches, libraries come to the next point in their development, which results in new competence requirements for library and information centers employees. Further, the necessity of informetrics training for library and information professionals is proved. The article also reveals contradictions and problems that occur while developing the concept of informetrics training as a part of library and information science.
