REFLECTION AND COMMUNICATION IN TEACHING ENGLISH FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES

The article discloses interrelation of communication and reflection in teaching/ learning of English for special purposes (ESP). The paper proves the need to develop reflective competences of students in order to implement the new complex aim of teaching English for special purposes. The author uses the statements of the theory of mental activity stage formation and the ideas of cooperative learning as methodological substantiations and presents her own methods and techniques of stage-by-stage development of communicative competence alongside with reflective skills during ESP classes. The taxonomy of tasks productive both for reflective and communicative skills development is presented. The results of the methodical experiment as well as experts’ estimation and evaluation of teaching second-year economic students have provided the proofs that this approach to teaching ESP can make the process of learning English for special purposes more efficient and effective.
