One of the main tasks of the Russian educational system is to improve the quality of professional training of the future specialists. In order to solve this problem, it is important to improve the student knowledge control. It was proved that a test is one of the objective instruments of control. It is the most popular instrument in the world in the field of educational and professional diagnostics. Just as any other form of control the test has both advantages and disadvantages analyzed in the research work. Testing does not substitute or abolish traditional forms of pedagogical control based on the face-to-face communication of the lecturer and students. This control has some important learning functions; it provides lecturers with information about the level of student knowledge, about the gaps in their training and about the emotional and psychological state of the group. It was found that technological effectiveness was the main difference of the test. It means that the task has a clear unique answer and is evaluated in a standard way. This feature is very useful in case of an automated system of test control. The applied automated testing system made it possible to quickly and regularly obtain current information about the level of student training, the level of their knowledge and skill on some subject matter.
