The authors rely on the key approaches of cognitive psychology, including the theory of individual cognitive styles and the definition of strategy as a regulation of a human cognitive activity. This article describes the pilot stage of the research wich highlights the indicators and the criteria of the formation of such thinking characteristics as: fluency, flexibility, mobility, multi-tasking, handling different semantic units, divergence, etc. The system of reference for the development of teenagers thinking based on the materials both text and visual formats is suggested. The significance of tasks aimed at the formation of such intellectual operations as synthesis, generalization production, assessment is substantiated.
